Summary

The STA Clinical and Lab Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing surgical technology students at the clinical sites and will support the program through hands on learning in the lab.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise students in person at their assigned clinical sites
  • Support instructor of record during lab sections. Responsible for assisting with set up, hosting and clean up of weekly labs and lab practicals
  • Promote a collaborative relationship between Trine University and the clinical site as a point of contact for the site and students while supervising the clinical.
  • Communicate any changes in policies at the clinical sites to the Program Director that impact student learning.
  • Assigns students to cases in order to fulfill programmatic requirements.
  • Advocates for student learning opportunities through communication with clinical sites and coordination with program faculty. Supervisor has the opportunity to review learning objectives and course sylabi with faculty on a semester basis.
  • Ensures a safe environment for patients, students, and clinical site staff by ensuring compliance based on Clinical Affiliation agreement requirements.
  • Makes systematic observations and objective judgments about student performance by providing guidance, feedback, and suggestions for improvement.
  • May participate in university seminars and professional development opportunities.
  • Attends programmatic advisory committee meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education

Associate degree in Surgical Technology and

  • Minimum three years’ experience in the operating room in the scrub role or
  • three years of current experience as an instructor of Surgical Technology or
  • A combination of both
  • Possess a current, surgical technology-specific credential that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCAA)
