Trine University’s Franks School of Education continues to set enrollment records, with 296 students enrolled across the school’s programs this fall.
The school also welcomed a record incoming class of 72 undergraduate education majors.
Ongoing growth in the Franks School of Education comes despite nationwide struggles with enrollment in teacher preparation programs. According to an August report by the National Council on Teacher Quality, enrollment in teacher education programs is only 70% of what it was a decade ago.
“The students and faculty are the reason our school of education is so special. All our programs, including the Center for Montessori Education and the Transition to Teaching program, are focused on creating talented and passionate educators,” said Megan Tolin, DET, dean of the Franks School of Education.
“We’ve worked hard to create a supportive yet challenging environment for our students, and in doing so have designed programs that provide additional value such as Project Lead the Way certification and Google Level 1 Certification. As a result, our graduates leave ready to be successful in their future classrooms.”
Despite the growth in students, the Franks School of Education has maintained its small class sizes, with 16 students, on average, in each course.
The school also continues to see success in employment for its graduates, with the Class of 2023 marking 12 years in a row of 100% job placement for those seeking teaching positions.
3 schools set records
The Franks School of Education was one of three academic schools on Trine’s Angola campus to report record enrollment for the fall 2023 semester.
The Rinker-Ross School of Health Sciences, which includes programs such as exercise science, biochemistry and forensic science, enrolled 473 students this fall. The Ketner School of Business has 442 students.
“The record enrollment for Trine University is a direct result of our innovative, professionally focused programs and our faculty's unwavering commitment to excellence and student attention,” said Tony Kline, Ph.D., vice president for academic affairs. “Not only has Trine's enrollment reached historic marks, we are just as proud that our student retention rates also set historic highs.”
Trine is serving a record 2,425 students at its Angola campus this fall, part of more than 13,000 now enrolled across all locations and platforms.
