Trine University supported Kevin Keys on path to medical school

April 09, 2025

Kevin Keys, biology majorKevin Keys wants to live and practice medicine in Indiana, and Trine University helped him get one step closer to that goal.

The Muncie, Indiana, native was recently accepted into the Indiana University School of Medicine and will start there after finishing his biology degree at Trine this spring.

“At the moment, I am just waiting to see which campus I get placed on. I hope to end up on the Fort Wayne campus,” he said.

Much help along the way

Kevin doesn’t recall an exact moment when he decided he wanted to attend medical school.

“I volunteered at an addiction center, so that got me initially interested in medicine. I still wasn’t entirely sure if that’s what I wanted to do, though,” he said. “However, after shadowing some specialties I found interesting, I decided medicine was the career I wanted to pursue.”

He chose Trine University because of the generous financial aid the university offered. Once he got to campus, he found faculty were more than willing to support his journey.

“All of the professors and faculty members I have interacted with have helped me get here,” he said. “Without the support and encouragement from my healthcare advisor, Dr. (Angela) Bojrab (director of pre-health), and academic advisor, Dr. (Anna) Glowinski, I am not sure if I would’ve made it this far.”

“On top of that, my genetics and organic chemistry courses really prepared me for the MCAT. Those classes helped me develop my critical thinking.”

He said it was intimidating to start applying for medical school and “preparing for the MCAT was definitely the hardest part of the whole experience,” but the excitement of being accepted made the process worth it.

“I was in class when I found out,” he recalled. “I left class, then called some of my friends and family members to let them know. It was relieving to know all my work was rewarded in the end.”

Kevin is grateful for the support of his family through his journey to medical school.

“I want to thank both of my parents for supporting me and helping me find shadowing opportunities,” he said. “I also want to thank both my Aunt Stephanie and my cousin Jacob for being my home away from home.”
