More often than not, students feel like math is a mystical, relatively unapproachable subject. I like working with students that have this mindset so I can convince them that math is approachable if it’s taught in the proper context, and how applicable math can be.
I am originally from Munster, Indiana, a town in extreme Northwest Indiana up by Lake Michigan, approximately 20 miles from Chicago. For my first two years of my undergrad, I attended Prairie State College, a small community college in the south suburbs of Chicago, where I obtained an associate degree in mathematics. I finished my last two years of my undergrad at Purdue University Northwest in Hammond, Indiana. I received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, with a minor in Computer Science and Applied Statistics. Finally, I received my master’s degree in mathematics and a Certificate of Applied Statistics from Purdue University Fort Wayne.
When I’m not in the classroom or in the office, you’ll find me boating, tubing, fishing, or hiking. When the weather isn’t favorable for those activities, you’ll find me either bowling or playing a game of billiards. If it’s more of a lazy day, you’ll find me binge watching crime dramas (my favorites are Criminal Minds and S.W.A.T) or watching horror movies.
