Andrew Dee’s Trine University education prepared him to succeed in an industry he is passionate about.
Dee, who graduated from Trine University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering, is now working as a refining engineer for Marathon Petroleum.
Dee has always been interested in energy and developing the technology that goes along with it. There are millions of people across the globe who need energy to complete daily tasks, and he hoped to be involved in the process.
During his time at Trine, Dee completed two summer internships with Marathon Petroleum. Following graduation, the company hired him full-time.
“Trine’s chemical engineering program is difficult but worth every struggle in the end,” said Dee.
He is now responsible for daily monitoring and optimization of the processing unit where he is assigned. He also provides technical support and assistance to the operating team for that area, including the maintenance team along with mechanical and electrical engineers.
Dee said Trine gave him numerous opportunities to work in group settings with students from other disciplines, which greatly improved his ability to problem solve.
“At Trine, I really felt like I belonged, not just another face on campus,” he said. “There were a lot of people who cared about the success of the students.”
