What is the Parkview Academy?

  • Parkview Health has partnered with Trine University’s Surgical Technology program to create a unique surgical technology academy program that tightens connections between training and the workplace. This program is built to support learners who want to accelerate the time to graduation with a schedule and program that incorporates working and learning.  

How does the Academy work?

  • Students will apply to the Academy with Trine University. If chosen for admittance, the student will be required to participate in all the aspects listed below and receive tuition support, which includes:
    • Out-of-pocket tuition not to exceed $5,400.
    • Forgivable student loan from the Questa Education Foundation in the amount of remaining Academy tuition, which will be fully forgiven upon completion of an 18-month work-back commitment to Parkview upon graduation.
  • Students are required to participate in all aspects of the Academy as part of their acceptance into the program. This includes:
    • Full-time attendance as a student in the Trine University Surgical Technology program in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
    • Working at Parkview Regional Medical Center as a .6 or .8 benefit eligible co-worker in the Surgical Tech Apprentice role. The work schedule will be built around your courses and clinical hours.
    • Commitment to work at Parkview Health as a surgical technologist for at least 18 months upon graduation from the program at Trine University.
  • In addition to work hours in the Academy, students will complete required clinical hours at locations throughout northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio.
  • The program is open to a total of 10 students for each cohort starting each August.

When can I apply?

  • Fall class will begin August 18, 2025, and goes to December 2026.
  • Applications for the August 18, 2025, academy class will close 7/18/25.  

How will I benefit?

  • Get paid to go to school (24-32 hours/wk. during school) with a schedule that supports your learning
  • Parkview Health benefits through your Parkview employment (health, vision, dental, etc.)
  • Pay for school with a combination of low out-of-pocket tuition and Parkview-supported forgivable loan with work-back commitment for all surgical technology program classes at Trine University
  • Ongoing mentorship from Parkview surgery professionals throughout the program
  • Upon successful completion of the Parkview Surgical Technology Academy, students will receive a job offer from Parkview Health

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent 
  • Required 2.5 GPA or higher.
  • Completed Castlebranch background check as part of the application.
  • Acknowledge the technical standards and essential functions as part of the application.
  • Complete an interview with the selection committee
  • Upon employment at Parkview, coworkers will need to live within a 30-minute driving distance from their location of employment for call purposes.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • 2-year commitment to work (2080 hours of full-time work per year) for Parkview Health after graduation
  • Student will pay for Trine University program enrollment/deposit fees, Castlebranch fees, supplies, uniforms, parking pass, & books.
  • Complete all of Trine University’s requirements in Next Steps to be eligible to apply to the PARKVIEW PROGRAM.
  • You will not be considered for sponsorship until you have been accepted into the Trine University Surgical Technology program

  2. Communicate with the BCHP Director of Admissions and Surgical Technology Program Director / Academic Advisor  to ensure that all submission requirements are completed.

How to Apply:  (Will only be available until 7/15/25). 

  • Do Not Apply if you haven't completed the application for the Trine University Surgical Technology Program
  • If you missed the deadline, start working toward 2026.
  • All candidates must apply and be accepted to the Trine University Surgical Technology Program (Employer Sponsored Cohort) for the Fall 2025 to be eligible for sponsorship from Parkview Health.

  2. SUBMIT YOUR TRANSCRIPTS
    Official, electronic high school transcripts should be submitted to Libby Laker at lakere@trine.edu.

    If you have completed prior college coursework, order your previous school to electronically submit your official transcript to Libby Laker at lakere@trine.edu. Complete the Request for Transcript Evaluation form. 

    The review committee will review your application, determine if you will proceed in the process and contact you regarding the next steps.

Trine University’s Surgical Technology Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), in cooperation with the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARCSTSA).
