About the MPAS program
What is a PA?
Physician assistants (physician associates), or PAs, are nationally certified and state-licensed healthcare professionals who practice medicine in collaboration with other members of the health care team. Physician assistants’ practice in all 50 states. PAs are trained to take medical histories, conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, prescribe medication, assist in surgery, perform procedures, make rounds in hospitals, and much more. You will find PAs practicing in areas such as hospitals, medical offices, surgery, community health, specialty areas, and research.
Physician Assistants’ Role in Healthcare
The demand for PAs has continued to increase over the past decade. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the profession will increase 28 percent from 2021 to 2031, significantly faster than the average for all occupations. The PA profession has been named by top media outlets, including Forbes and USA Today, as one of the most promising jobs in America. Being a Trine PA Student
The Trine University graduate-level physician assistant program leads to a Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree. The program follows the traditional medical model of training, providing in-depth analysis of disease processes, diagnosis and treatment utilizing a blend of classroom lectures and hands-on learning. Students engage in full-time study for seven semesters, earning their degree in 29 months.
The Master of Physician Assistant Studies program is designed to provide an outstanding educational experience and prepare students to perform their expected competencies in a safe, appropriate, effective, and cost-effective manner in a variety of clinical settings. After completing the program, graduates will take the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE) to gain licensure.
